What Happens in Speech?
First and foremost, Allison understands that all kids learn best when they are having fun. To increase motivation and success, Allison incorporates play into all speech therapy sessions. She’s skilled at going with the flow and following the child’s lead while embedding specific practice into play.
Allison uses a multi-sensory approach to treat speech delays and disorders, incorporating visual, auditory, and sensory feedback. She focuses on an individual’s ability to control the mandibular, labiofacial, and lingual muscles necessary for speech production. She is trained in PROMPT, a specialized approach to treating motor speech disorders. Allison is also skilled at treating phonological disorders.

In a short period of time, our child's speech developed and his ability to articulate certain sounds and words improved drastically. Allison provided our son with visual cues and reminders to help him self-correct his speech. Our family has really enjoyed working with Allison."
-K.J. (Parent of 3-year-old working on articulation)
Allison immediately puts clients at ease with her kindness and caring demeanor, and her passion for her work is obvious. Her sessions are filled with encouragement and positivity. As a parent, what I appreciate most is that Allison is genuinely appreciative of parental involvement. Communication from parents between visits is welcome, questions are answered promptly, and parents are given at-home exercises for additional practice, all critical to the child's success. I highly recommend with no reservations the services of Allison at Wildflower Speech.
-C.T. (Parent of 13-year-old working on articulation)
- Our experience with Allison has been fantastic. She creates an atmosphere that is both happy and fun. She has the ability to turn anything into a game and this allows my son to practice and improve his speech without realizing that he is actually doing speech therapy. Allison integrates her tablet into the games in a way that allows her to record his speech and then she lets him hear himself saying the words so that he can learn to correct himself when he makes a mistake. She does everything in an incredibly positive way and my son looks forward to visiting her office. He woke up this morning and said "It's time to go see Allison today!"

What Happens At An Evaluation?
Allison begins by getting to know your child and building rapport through games, crafts, or other fun activities. She then begins the formal part of the evaluation, which can often be completed through the use of an iPad, a game, and a story. Assessment is always thoughtfully embedded into fun activities to help the child feel at ease. In fact, Wildflower Speech clients even enjoy the oral-mechanism exam. Instead of a tongue depressor to examine oral structures, Allison uses the throat scope--which kids refer to as a "light saber".

- The type of sound errors that occur
- In which context sound errors occur
- Whether sound errors are age-appropriate, delayed, or atypical
- Whether sound errors are linked to anatomy and musculature (e.g., a tongue-tie, tongue thrust, dental occlusion, velopharyngeal insufficency, muscle weakness)
