What Happens in Speech?

First and foremost, Allison understands that all kids learn best when they are having fun.  To increase motivation and success, Allison incorporates play into all speech therapy sessions.  She’s skilled at going with the flow and following the child’s lead while embedding specific practice into play. 

​Allison uses a multi-sensory approach to treat speech delays and disorders, incorporating visual, auditory, and sensory feedback.  She focuses on an individual’s ability to control the mandibular, labiofacial, and lingual muscles necessary for speech production. She is trained in PROMPT, a specialized approach to treating motor speech disorders.  Allison is also skilled at treating phonological disorders.

At Wildflower Speech Therapy, speech therapy is offered for:

What Happens At An Evaluation?

Allison begins by getting to know your child and building rapport through games, crafts, or other fun activities.  She then begins the formal part of the evaluation, which can often be completed through the use of an iPad, a game, and a story. Assessment is always thoughtfully embedded into fun activities to help the child feel at ease.  In fact, Wildflower Speech clients even enjoy the oral-mechanism exam.  Instead of a tongue depressor to examine oral structures, Allison uses the throat scope--which kids refer to as a "light saber".

An evaluation provides us with information such as:

• The type of sound errors that occur
• In which context sound errors occur 
• Whether sound errors are age-appropriate, delayed, or atypical
• Whether sound errors are linked to anatomy and musculature  (e.g., a tongue-tie, tongue thrust, dental occlusion, velopharyngeal insufficency, muscle weakness)

With the information gathered from the evaluation, Allison creates a personalized treatment plan for your child.
